Winter Workshop
at LM Serafin Pottery

The Groovy Nesting Pinch Pot Workshop
February 17, 2018
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

In this workshop on Saturday, February 17 (1 pm until 4 pm), you will learn how to make the most basic of all things – a pinch pot. Pinch pots are made by taking a ball of clay, inserting your thumb into the middle and pinching the clay outwards to make a small bowl. Our objective in this workshop will be to make 3 nesting bowls that will be accompanied by 3 small spoons, also using the pinch pot method.  You will be able to use your pieces for condiments, salt, spices, etc., since all of the glazes at the pottery are food safe.

This workshop is intended to get you acquainted with clay. If you are already familiar with clay, but missing how it feels beneath your fingers, you might also like this workshop. All materials including clay, glazing and firing of your pieces are covered by the fee, which is $60.00. Refreshments will be served.

How It Gets All Packed Into One Afternoon
If you’re familiar with pottery,  you know that clay needs time to dry, then it needs to be glazed and fired. In this workshop, you will indeed be making the pieces, but your instructor, Lisa-Marie, will be finishing your work for you.  During the workshop you will choose your glaze colours and make notes. The glazes (maximum of 2) will be applied for you, according to your notes. The pieces will then be fired. When they are ready you will get an email or phone call.  People can either come and pick up their work or LM can meet up with people in the city to give them their pieces, since a trip is made to the city every 2 weeks or so.

To reserve your spot, please send an email to with your name and contact information and you will be sent a confirmation along with a request for payment. Once your payment is received you are IN!  If you prefer to register in person and pay with cash, that can be arranged also.  For information please call 819-281-3307.

Poterie LM Serafin Pottery is located at 110 Giroux Pvt. in beautiful Mayo, QC, just 45 minutes from downtown Ottawa and a stone’s throw from Buckingham, QC.

Special Events
If you’re a pottery nerd, the term “kiln opening” may evoke images associated with the opening of a large wood or gas fired kiln.  Well, what about potters that use a small electric kiln?  I open my kiln every time I fire it, so technically, my kiln openings are legit!  I fire electric only (it’s the greenest choice) and my kiln is pretty darned small – 7 cubic feet. I just want to warn you well in advance because my kiln openings are small affairs, yet unique, and it can be exciting to witness the unloading of warm pottery and most importantly, be among the first to view and purchase pieces that come from that kiln.

Kiln openings will be announced a day ahead of the unloading of a new kiln load of pottery.  If you subscribe to our mailing list (just above) you will get notification of kiln openings, sales and workshops at Poterie LM Serafin Pottery.

Not too many folks know about the long process of making pottery by hand. At the kiln openings you can ask questions such as “How long does it take to fire the kiln?” Of course the answer is, “It depends!”
