Private Lessons

What’s the difference between lessons and workshops?
Lessons are regularly scheduled  while a workshop is a one time event. With lessons I teach a syllabus that is dedicated to learning techniques that will give you a good foundation in pottery. In a workshop we work on one specific technique/project from start to finish in one block of time.

All lessons are private so it’s one on one.  I find that when students are taught this way, they learn far more quickly because the teacher’s attention is solely on the one student.  *Students must wear a mask if they work closely with the public, or schools, or if they have been exposed to someone who is/was sick. N95 masks double as a dust mask.

What type of classes are offered?
The syllabus I created includes hand building, an introduction to the potter’s wheel, and lessons in decorating and glazing your pieces. Hand building techniques to begin your journey in pottery are essential to a well rounded clay education.  Hand built forms include creating pottery using slabs and coils. Also balls of clay can be formed into pots by pinching the clay. Most students remark on how soothing and calming it is to build pottery by hand. In fact, it is the method I use most in my studio.

The introductory cost (your first lesson) is $95.00 and is 2.5 hours long including time to clean up. This will serve as a way for you to find out if you like working with clay. There is no obligation to continue. If you decide to commit to regularly scheduled sessions, the cost is $100 per 2.5 hours. This fee includes all materials (clay, glazes, oxides, etc.) and firing of your work that is created in my studio.

My studio is located in Mayo, QC, about 20 minutes from Buckingham and about 45 minutes downtown Ottawa.

*NOTE* There is no public transportation to Mayo.  You must drive or have someone drive you to and from your lessons.
